Did Il Duce Believe he was a Jesus Bloodline Grail King?

Another
continuing constituent of his
[Mussolini's] creed was manifested in his vitriolic attacks
against
the Church, which he accompanied with provocative and blasphemous
remarks about
the consecrated host and about a love
affair between Christ and Mary Magdalen.
When the esteemed Oxford University Don Denis Mack Smith, CBE wrote these words in 1982 he had no idea that he was opening a Pandora's Box of occult intrigue. The noted historian penned this provocative sentence before the esoteric potboiler Holy Blood, Holy Grail (1982) and the subsequent novel The Da Vinci Code (2003) erupted onto the pop culture scene. The essence of these two works centers on the conviction that Jesus & Mary Magdalen were romantically involved, had children and that their descendants eventually moved to France and married into the Frankish/Merovingian dynasty thus biologically linking them to all the Royal Houses of Europe.
After the Church of Rome gained power they persecuted the royal House of Christ. This Jesus Bloodline went underground, hid their pedigree and formed a secret society called the Priory of Sion which still seeks to keep them in political and economic power up to our time. This noble family tree is called The Holy Grail Bloodline as advocates contend that certain chivalric legends like Parzival refer to royal blood as opposed to the cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper which is normally associated with this term. The ruling monarch in any one generation is called "The Grail King".
- Traces of this warped theology can be historically validated in various heretical Christian sects like the Gnostics, Heresy of the Free Spirit, British Israelism and the Mormons (LDS). Apart from the founders of the LDS when they sought to make Utah a Jesus Bloodline kingdom, Benito Mussolini is the only known politician to mention a romantic affair between the Savior and Mary Magdalen as a means to secure absolute governmental power. Il Duce made this statement not as a Fascist ruler but rather in his younger days during 1912 when he was a socialist newspaper editor and atheist with a picture of Karl Marx hanging on his wall. Was this statement merely a lefty smear against the Roman Catholic Church or does it connote a deeper and more sinister political plan on the part of Mussolini?

This question
becomes more problematic when
considering that after Mussolini abandoned leftist ideology he made
immediate inroads to the ruling House of Savoy and the Vatican as a
means to gain power in Italy. It is often forgotten that Il Duce
was never
the absolute dictator that history paints him as being. King
Victor Emmanuel of Italy declared him Prime Minister in 1922 after his
famous
Fascist March on Rome and also removed Mussolini from power and
arrested him after his regime collapsed when the Allies invaded in
1943. Il Duce also made huge concessions to the Roman Catholic
Church. However,
biographers rarely note that Mussolini hated both the Pope and the
Italian King and eventually sought to destroy
them and considered several schemes to overturn both
the Church and the aristocracy of Italy.
When
contemporary historians
examine World War Two Benito Mussolini is often written off as Hitler's
junior partner who had little influence over anything. They
forget that he was the originator and shaper of Fascism -- a style of
government that still exists today. In forming this autocratic
form of rule Mussolini synchronized preexisting systems and
considered some extreme measures to gain absolute power over the
established order. It is also rarely mentioned that Il Duce was
first
and foremost a revolutionary. His ultimate idol was Julius Caesar
who 2000 years earlier had crossed the Rubicon River and marched into
Rome and overturned the government. Mussolini was so enamoured with the
Emperor that he considered reintroducing ancient Roman paganism and
dismantling the Church of Rome and declaring himself Caesar. This seems
quite a grandiose scheme considering Benito
Mussolini was a blacksmith's son who learned the family
trade but qualified as a school teacher as a means to avoid
this physically demanding job. He definitely lacked
refinement and was forced to take etiquette lessons
when
he became prime minister. Although an egomaniac Mussolini was an
avid reader and did seek intellectual mentors throughout his life --
one of whom offered several strategies by which he could achieve his
lofty imperial goals.
Il Duce & Evola
The Blacksmith & The Black Baron
One early supporter of Fascism who was to play a major role in Mussolini's intellectual development was Baron Julius Evola who, after a stint as a Dadaist artist, embarked on a career as an esoteric and political writer. Evola helped form the UR Group which was an occult fraternity dedicated to ceremonial magic, mysticism and extreme right wing politics. This strange cult actively sought the destruction of Christianity and the rebirth of the ancient Roman pantheon of gods and a reintroduction of pagan sects and mystical rituals of Caesar's long fallen empire. These efforts included magical incantations and arcane rites which sought to imbibe the new Fascist regime with the spirit of classical Rome. This culminated in Evola's book Pagan Imperialism (1928) which impressed Il Duce so much that he wrote a positive response to the UR Group.
It should also be noted that he somewhat feared this metaphysical fellowship. The notion of becoming a god incarnate like the Roman Emperors certainly appealed to Mussolini but the realpolitik of Italy would not allow for such a neo-pagan revolution. Converting the Italian masses to Heathenism was just too impractical. 99% of his country was Roman Catholic and the dictator knew that it was the Vatican he had to deal with in order to secure complete power for his regime. In this regard he signed the Lateran Treaty in 1929 restoring the Church's power in Italian public life and making it the official religion of the new Roman Empire. The UR Group's hopes for a neo-pagan empire seemed dashed or were they?
The New Roman Caesar
Evola was openly critical of Il Duce's embracing of the Church in several journal articles. Strangely, Mussolini tolerated these oftentimes harsh rebukes and the Baron was the only journalist allowed to attack the dictator so bluntly in print. Nor did Il Duce abandoned the Baron after he rejected the Fascist agenda asking him to formulate Italian racist doctrines to persecute Jews in 1938. Could Mussolini and Evola have concocted some longterm plan by which they could successfully overthrow both the Vatican and the ruling House of Savoy as a means to generate complete and absolute power? We know that the belligerent autocrat believed that Jesus and Mary Magdelan were romantically involved and perhaps he formulated a scheme by which he would claim to be a blood descendant of Christ and His lover Mary Magdalen. In this way Il Duce could one-up both the Pope and the monarch and declare himself a Priest King from the line of Jesus. This seems somewhat far fetched until one considers that Julius Evola was one of the primary architects of what became known as The Da Vinci Code thesis. Occult historian Robert Richardson pointed this fact out in a 1999 article and it is worth quoting at length,
It is doubtful that he would have chosen any of his children from his second marriage to his former mistress Rachele Guidi to be his Grail line successor. (He abandoned his first wife Ida Dalser in 1917 and eventually had their offspring Benito Mussloini Jr. murdered in a mental hospital.) His favorite son Bruno died in a plane crash and he reportedly disliked his two surviving sons who he saw as buffoons who were only interested in cinema and jazz. It is clear that he repeatedly attempted but failed to father a child with his mistress Clara Petacci -- a women from an upper class family who was 28 years his junior. Perhaps this child would have acted as Mussolini's Grail Prince.
All of his dreams were dashed when the Allied armies led by Gen. George Patton invaded Italy. After the King deposed him and placed him under arrest Mussolini read The Life of Christ and told his jailers that his imprisonment reflected that of the Savior's betrayal by Judas. [Mack: 299] When the Waffen SS rescued Il Duce from his Italian captors and briefly restored him to power it was Julius Evola who first greeted him and encouraged Mussolini during the final days of the great conflict. No one knows what transpired between them but according to his wife Mussolini began comparing himself more and more to Jesus Christ as his second regime collapsed around him. [Mack: 311] Its seems, to put it quite bluntly and crudely, that Il Duce began to believe his own bullshit as his world fell apart and his ambitions mutated into delusions. Benito Mussolini and his mistress were executed by Italian communists as they sought to flee Italy in 1945.

Fascism survived in Spain and Latin America but Mussolini was soon forgotten. Some of his close followers were tried as war criminals by the Allies but most just abandoned Il Duce's thought and adjusted to the Democratic system which was heaved upon Italy in the post war years . However, one Fascist never lost the true faith.
Evola in Later Years
Evola's Revenge: The Rise of the Grail King
In the waning days of the war Julius Evola was wounded during a bombing raid while working in Austria for Himmler's SS. He avoided criminal prosecution for war crimes because he never actually joined the Fascist party. Wheelchair bound for life he retired to Rome and met with various neo-Fascist groups. He was tried for attempting to restore Fascism but was acquitted in a famous trial in 1951. Evola did not remain idle during the remainder of his life writing a great deal and meeting with various right wing wannabes, historians and the just plain curious until he died in 1974. However, his notion of a Grail King did not die -- it germinated and grew. The Black Baron never would have guessed that his mythical monarch idea would explode and gain hundreds of millions of fans and even advocates in the New Millennium.
Paul Le Cour, Pierre Plantard and Rene Guenon
As demonstrated The Da Vinci Code has its origins in the political/mystical machinations of Julius Evola on the nature of Divine Kingship. The major question that naturally arises from this is if there is any direct or ideological connection between the Black Baron and the originator of Dan Brown's popular novel? The short answer is yes and the longer explanation involves the strange figure of Pierre Plantard of whom the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail examines in detail but tragically missed some major points about his life. As a youth Plantard became fascinated with occultism, mysticism and right wing politics. The son of an impoverished widow he joined a variety of extremist Catholic groups as a teenager. Emotionally unstable Plantard was unable to hold down a job and had run-ins with the law for various schemes and con games throughout his life. Plantard eventually qualified as a technical writer but this low income job never gave him the glory he sought and he always seemed to have some sort of swindle in the works. This makes his devotion to the Catholic Church questionable and his involvement may have only been an avenue for this disturbed young man's quest for money, power and recognition.
Esoteric scholar Robert Richardson claims in his article The Priory of Sion Secret that Plantard privately received huge funding from a mysterious group called the Hiéron de Val d'Or (Golden Valley Sanctuary) which sought to integrate esotericism with the Church of Rome under a world-wide monarch. This group had conflicts with the Catholic Church for promoting astrology and other arcane rites but they at least superficially reconciled with the Vatican. Its leadership died out in the 1920s but its ideas remained alive in occult author Paul Le Cour's organization Atlantis. Evola was a close friend of one time Hiéron de Val d'Or member and esoteric writer Rene Guenon. The Black Baron visited Guenon at his home in Egypt and even had him write for his post World War II newspaper. Guenon wrote a book entitled King of the World (1928) which echoes many of the same themes as Mystery of the Grail and he may have given the Black Baron contacts in France by which he could generate his Grail King ideology although he most likely was unaware of Evola's sinister intent. Plantard himself claimed to have been friends with Paul Le Cour but this is doubtful. It is more than possible that the extremely rich Evola was directly or indirectly funneling money to the con artist Plantard via former Hiéron de Val d'Or members.

It is clear, however, that Plantard was actively promoting the idea of a unified Europe under a single monarch in his well funded journal Vaincre (Conquer) in 1942. As Richardson rightly pointed out the symbolism on the premiere issue of Vaincre is drawn directly from the Hiéron de Val d'Or. At this juncture in the war the Axis powers knew the cause was lost and perhaps it was Evola who privately financed Plantard's organization called Alpha Galates (First Celts) which was merely a front for the Hiéron de Val d'Or or those sympathetic with its ideals. Evola may have sought alternative streams to promote the idea of a global emperor seeing that Il Duce's days were numbered. Strangely the standard carried by the Celtic knight on the cover of Plantard's magazine looks remarkably like the European Union flag.
However, nothing in Plantard's initial material mentions Jesus and Mary Magdalen being married and having formed a noble bloodline. He wrote of a United States of Europe under an absolute monarch. If Evola were behind this than why did Plantard avoid the whole Grail King lineage? Perhaps the ravages of the war and the chaos that followed the fall of the Axis powers made this an inopportune time for such a lofty meme to be planted in the minds of the masses. The timing for such an endeavor had to be just right and the appropriate opportunity had to be found in which Plantard could promote Mussolini and Evola's notion of a ruling Christ pedigree. The early 1940s would not offer such an ideal moment to launch the concept of a Jesus bloodline but it would develop in the most unlikely place of post war tacky tourism.
Corbu's Article to attract Tacky Tourists
In 1956 Plantard, along with a few friends, concocted the notion of a false Priory of Sion secret society which was set up to protect and promote the Merovingian lineage in the Middle Ages up to contemporary times. A restaurateur named Noël Corbu purchased some property in Rennes Le Chateau during 1946 in Langdoc, France which was once owned by a Catholic priest named Bérenger Saunière (1852-1917). His new enterprise was situated in a remote location and he needed to attract tourists to his eatery which he opened on Saunière's old estate. Over the next decade Corbu continually contacted newspapers and claimed that Saunière had discovered a huge treasure hidden in the 1200s by King Louis VIII's wife Blanche of Castille and the curate used the money to renovate his Church and other properties. In reality Saunière received the massive funding from a wealthy benefactor. The national news services picked up the story and none other than Pierre Plantard visited Corbu several years later and toured the area. Plantard decided to exploit the media hype surrounding Cordu's bistro to promote his own monarchist agenda.
Plantard further embellished Corbu's story by claiming that Saunière discovered some hidden secret documents during the renovations. In these manuscripts the Merovingian King Dagobert II was depicted as the last rightful monarch of France who was murdered by the Pope in 679 AD. Plantard started claiming that he was descended from this royal line and was the rightful King of France -- all of which turned out to be nonsense. As Robert Richardson pointed out Plantard wrote in the forged Priory documents that initiates must wear a cord at ceremonies which he directly took from Evola's Mystery of the Grail thus suggesting a direct link between the two men.
It should be noted that Plantard did not mention that Jesus and Mary Magdalen had children until after Evola's death. There may be a sound reason for this. Evola and Plantard may have been waiting for the European Union, which was formed in 1952, to solidify and for one of Mussolini's descendants to grow up and enter politics. These two conditions were essential for a Grail King political movement to emerge and promoting these ideas too early would destroy any chance of success. The conspirators did not want to jump the gun especially as the details of Mussolini's involvement in the Holocaust were being exposed. However, by the 1960s the Priory of Sion hoax took on a life of its own.
Saint Dagobert II's Skull
In 1961 French TV made a documentary on the hidden documents and cast Corbu as Saunière. The surrealist author Gérard de Sède was recruited by Plantard to write a series of books about the hoax and introduced the Knights Templars and the Cathars as driving forces behind the Priory. The conspirators also planted some false documents in the French National Library that listed the Grand Masters of the Priory which included every major figure in Western thought including Newton and Da Vinci. They seemed to have copied the AMORC Rosicrucians who had a similar list of alleged notable members in advertisements for their mail order mystical belief system.
In 1969 Henry Lincoln, an actor and screen writer for Doctor Who, read de Sède's work and visited Rennes Le Chateau. In the 1970s he produced a series of documentary films on Rennes Le Chateau for the BBC and this led to his collaboration with Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh on the non-fiction book Holy Blood, Holy Grail in 1982. The three authors investigated the mystery and were led to Plantard. It was in this book that Plantard promoted the idea that Christ had a wife and children that married into the Merovingian royal house and generated the Grail line and that a descendant of Jesus would rise as a world monarch although no esoteric scholar took him seriously. This huge hit spawned an industry of books and films on the subject which culminated with Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code in 2003 which spurred Ron Howard's block buster film starring Tom Hanks. The money generated from all of this must be in the billions.
That Plantard was promoting himself as the rightful King of France was helpful to the plot and was probably his reward if a Mussolini Euro-Emperor were to emerge. This would serve to warm-up the public for the coming of the Bloodline world monarch. However, after the Black Baron's passing Plantard most likely hijacked the scheme that Il Duce and Evola had originally concocted for his own gain. He egged on Lincoln, Baigent and Leigh when they falsely believed they had independently discovered that Jesus was married and that Plantard himself was the true descendant of Christ and rightful Grail King. Plantard's lies and further legal troubles ended his delusions of grandeur and he admitted to making the whole scheme up when he was hauled before a court in 1993. No one heard from him or about him after that until newspapers reported his death in 2000.
However, The entire Da Vinci Code industry planted the meme of the Grail King in the global imagination and consequently promoted Julius Evola's sinister plan of a global despot which emerges from a non existent Christ pedigree. Could Evola had an even more devious agenda for the emergence of a Bloodline monarch which would eventually dominate Europe and later the world? Could Plantard have been only one of many conspirators involved in this strange hoax? The answer may be yes.
Il Duce's Revenge: The Emergence of "a Prince of the Blood"
On the wall were Benito Mussolini and Clara Petacci were executed by partisans in 1945 hangs a Rosicrucian-like cross which has been associated with the Grail King legend by Evola and Guenon. Often roses are woven into the Cross by unknown parties. Could this suggest the existence of a secret society dedicated to restoring a Mussolini to political power? If this scenario is true than this leads to the question of which descendant of Il Duce will emerge as Grail King?

Il Duce has
a granddaughter by his swinging
jazz musican son Romano named Alessandra Mussoloni -- a
onetime fashion
model and Playboy
centerfold turned politician. She was elected to
several posts
under various neo-Fascist political parties and currently is in the
Italian Legislature as a member of the People of Freedom right wing
ruling party. She was a one time member of the European Union
Parliament as a former member of the Social Action Party. It is
interesting to note that she turned her EU seat over to Roberto Fiore --
a fanatic follower of Julius Evola. Ms. Mussolini has three
children from
her marriage to a customs official and petitioned the government to
allow her offspring to retain Mussolini as a last name.
This practice
was invented by the Habsburg imperial dynasty in case the male line of
the family were to die out and is called "joint hands" policy which
secures bloodline sovereignty. It is unclear if her youngest and
only son will enter politics but he or some future "prince of the
blood" may emerge as a Grail King. Perhaps Europe and maybe even
the world will live under The Mussolini Code. Only Time and
Playboy will tell!

phony bloodline originated in two places. In the 1930s the writings and
speeches of the Italian esotericist Julius Evola received prominence in
many philosophical, esoteric, and right-wing political circles, and
were admired by Nazi leaders like Heinrich Himmler. Many 'Priory'
themes originated in Evola's ideas. To Evola's thinking, in the old
system of world order, the king was believed to be a sacred being.
Divine virtues and powers descended on him. Traditional institutions
were based on sacred legacies.
The state itself had a transcendent meaning. Evola also referred to a special quality of the blood which he alleged once existed in one royal house. Above all, he admired Godfrey of Bouillon, first Latin ruler of Palestine after the First Crusade, as the ideal ruler, the lux monarchorum ("light of monarchs"). Man could only be restored, Evola wrote, by the government of a spiritual elite, those wearing the belt or cord of initiates that marks the 'carriers of some invisible influence.'
To create the concept
of the
bloodline, Evola's ideas were melded with one other source, the
doctoral dissertation of Walter Johannes Stein, originally published in Germany
in 1928. In this
work, called The Ninth
Century: World History in
the Light of the Holy Grail,
Stein, a close associate of Rudolf Steiner, detailed what he felt was
the historical and symbolic background behind the Grail sagas.
An appendix to The Ninth Century is a genealogical chart Stein
calls the 'Grail bloodline.' One side extends into the royal house of
France. Another extends down to Godfrey of Bouillon. Part of Stein's
thesis is that events in the lives of actual historical figures served
as models for the characters and for some events in the Grail stories.
According to Stein, the people associated with this family tree were
acknowledged in their time as being of a high spiritual nature and
having paranormal capacities. Yet he also stresses that these
capacities had vanished from this family hundreds of years ago." (Robert

Evola clearly
and
distinctly mentions "a special
quality of the
blood once existed in one royal house". When
The Black Baron wrote these esoteric words in his strange book Mystery
of the Grail (1937) he could not be too specific
as to which
bloodline he was referring to as not to offend the House of Savoy.
Perhaps the Baron and Il Duce eventually planned to overthrow the
Vatican and
presiding
monarchy and proclaim Mussolini a
"Grail King". In this scenario the Fascist historians could have
concocted some false genealogy tracing Il Duce's family tree back to
the
Royal Houses of Europe and to Jesus and Mary Magdalen. This
heretical imperialism could merely rework established Roman Catholic
rites with Il Duce as the object of worship and this would be far more
palatable to the Italian people than the neo-pagan agenda of the UR
Group.
This
is highly speculative but another insight on Mussolini's regime from
Professor Mack of Oxford offers some strong support for this theory,

referring to [Mussolini as] 'a man sent by Providence' to deliver
Italy
from the heresies of liberalism,
Pope Pius gave much more assistance
to fascism than he had probably intended; he was authenticating the motif of
'the man sent by God to Italy' that was now a cliche of the
regime. The
high priests of fascism were
calling Mussolini 'divine Caesar,' another St Francis, our
'spiritual father' and 'sublime
redeemer in the Roman heavens'. By order of the
party, pronouns referring
to him had to be
capitalised like those referring to God..."

These
startling Messianic pronouncements certainly demonstrate that
Mussolini was already setting the stage for some sort of Grail
King lineage. Pope Pius XI even warned the
despot about not making himself "a demi-god between Heaven and
Earth"
which Il Duce reportedly found amusing. [Mack: 162]
Mussolini
began referring to his sons as "princes of the blood" [Mack: 310] -- another sure
sign that
he was moving toward declaring himself a monarch with a pedigree from
Christ. Il Duce most likely got this odd notion from the Mormons and
secretly shared the idea with the UR Group. Future LDS
President Elder
Lorenzo Snow moved to Genova in 1850 seeking
converts but the LDS Church
was
expelled from Italy in
the 1860s. In 1900 the Mormons sought to continue
missionary efforts in Rome but were refused and the founder of Fascism
could easily have read about their strange theology in the newspapers.
Ironically, Benito Mussolini was given a "baptism for the dead"
and is a Saint
in the LDS Church.
Critics of this essay will point out that claiming to be a descendant of Jesus would make Mussolini Jewish and, consequently, an enemy of Fascism. However, Evola's racist theory was radically different than that of German Nazi ideologue Alfred Rosenberg. Evola did not consider biological Jews to be a threat but rather that the "Judaic spirit" was the culprit and that people of Jewish blood could be imbued with an Aryan spirit and vice versa. Evola did not consider biological Jews to be a threat but rather that the "Judaic spirit" was the culprit and that people of Jewish blood could be imbued with an Aryan spirit and vice versa. It is doubtful that he would have chosen any of his children from his second marriage to his former mistress Rachele Guidi to be his Grail line successor. (He abandoned his first wife Ida Dalser in 1917 and eventually had their offspring Benito Mussloini Jr. murdered in a mental hospital.) His favorite son Bruno died in a plane crash and he reportedly disliked his two surviving sons who he saw as buffoons who were only interested in cinema and jazz. It is clear that he repeatedly attempted but failed to father a child with his mistress Clara Petacci -- a women from an upper class family who was 28 years his junior. Perhaps this child would have acted as Mussolini's Grail Prince.
All of his dreams were dashed when the Allied armies led by Gen. George Patton invaded Italy. After the King deposed him and placed him under arrest Mussolini read The Life of Christ and told his jailers that his imprisonment reflected that of the Savior's betrayal by Judas. [Mack: 299] When the Waffen SS rescued Il Duce from his Italian captors and briefly restored him to power it was Julius Evola who first greeted him and encouraged Mussolini during the final days of the great conflict. No one knows what transpired between them but according to his wife Mussolini began comparing himself more and more to Jesus Christ as his second regime collapsed around him. [Mack: 311] Its seems, to put it quite bluntly and crudely, that Il Duce began to believe his own bullshit as his world fell apart and his ambitions mutated into delusions. Benito Mussolini and his mistress were executed by Italian communists as they sought to flee Italy in 1945.

Fascism survived in Spain and Latin America but Mussolini was soon forgotten. Some of his close followers were tried as war criminals by the Allies but most just abandoned Il Duce's thought and adjusted to the Democratic system which was heaved upon Italy in the post war years . However, one Fascist never lost the true faith.
Evola in Later Years
Evola's Revenge: The Rise of the Grail King
In the waning days of the war Julius Evola was wounded during a bombing raid while working in Austria for Himmler's SS. He avoided criminal prosecution for war crimes because he never actually joined the Fascist party. Wheelchair bound for life he retired to Rome and met with various neo-Fascist groups. He was tried for attempting to restore Fascism but was acquitted in a famous trial in 1951. Evola did not remain idle during the remainder of his life writing a great deal and meeting with various right wing wannabes, historians and the just plain curious until he died in 1974. However, his notion of a Grail King did not die -- it germinated and grew. The Black Baron never would have guessed that his mythical monarch idea would explode and gain hundreds of millions of fans and even advocates in the New Millennium.
Paul Le Cour, Pierre Plantard and Rene Guenon
As demonstrated The Da Vinci Code has its origins in the political/mystical machinations of Julius Evola on the nature of Divine Kingship. The major question that naturally arises from this is if there is any direct or ideological connection between the Black Baron and the originator of Dan Brown's popular novel? The short answer is yes and the longer explanation involves the strange figure of Pierre Plantard of whom the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail examines in detail but tragically missed some major points about his life. As a youth Plantard became fascinated with occultism, mysticism and right wing politics. The son of an impoverished widow he joined a variety of extremist Catholic groups as a teenager. Emotionally unstable Plantard was unable to hold down a job and had run-ins with the law for various schemes and con games throughout his life. Plantard eventually qualified as a technical writer but this low income job never gave him the glory he sought and he always seemed to have some sort of swindle in the works. This makes his devotion to the Catholic Church questionable and his involvement may have only been an avenue for this disturbed young man's quest for money, power and recognition.
Esoteric scholar Robert Richardson claims in his article The Priory of Sion Secret that Plantard privately received huge funding from a mysterious group called the Hiéron de Val d'Or (Golden Valley Sanctuary) which sought to integrate esotericism with the Church of Rome under a world-wide monarch. This group had conflicts with the Catholic Church for promoting astrology and other arcane rites but they at least superficially reconciled with the Vatican. Its leadership died out in the 1920s but its ideas remained alive in occult author Paul Le Cour's organization Atlantis. Evola was a close friend of one time Hiéron de Val d'Or member and esoteric writer Rene Guenon. The Black Baron visited Guenon at his home in Egypt and even had him write for his post World War II newspaper. Guenon wrote a book entitled King of the World (1928) which echoes many of the same themes as Mystery of the Grail and he may have given the Black Baron contacts in France by which he could generate his Grail King ideology although he most likely was unaware of Evola's sinister intent. Plantard himself claimed to have been friends with Paul Le Cour but this is doubtful. It is more than possible that the extremely rich Evola was directly or indirectly funneling money to the con artist Plantard via former Hiéron de Val d'Or members.

It is clear, however, that Plantard was actively promoting the idea of a unified Europe under a single monarch in his well funded journal Vaincre (Conquer) in 1942. As Richardson rightly pointed out the symbolism on the premiere issue of Vaincre is drawn directly from the Hiéron de Val d'Or. At this juncture in the war the Axis powers knew the cause was lost and perhaps it was Evola who privately financed Plantard's organization called Alpha Galates (First Celts) which was merely a front for the Hiéron de Val d'Or or those sympathetic with its ideals. Evola may have sought alternative streams to promote the idea of a global emperor seeing that Il Duce's days were numbered. Strangely the standard carried by the Celtic knight on the cover of Plantard's magazine looks remarkably like the European Union flag.
However, nothing in Plantard's initial material mentions Jesus and Mary Magdalen being married and having formed a noble bloodline. He wrote of a United States of Europe under an absolute monarch. If Evola were behind this than why did Plantard avoid the whole Grail King lineage? Perhaps the ravages of the war and the chaos that followed the fall of the Axis powers made this an inopportune time for such a lofty meme to be planted in the minds of the masses. The timing for such an endeavor had to be just right and the appropriate opportunity had to be found in which Plantard could promote Mussolini and Evola's notion of a ruling Christ pedigree. The early 1940s would not offer such an ideal moment to launch the concept of a Jesus bloodline but it would develop in the most unlikely place of post war tacky tourism.
Corbu's Article to attract Tacky Tourists
In 1956 Plantard, along with a few friends, concocted the notion of a false Priory of Sion secret society which was set up to protect and promote the Merovingian lineage in the Middle Ages up to contemporary times. A restaurateur named Noël Corbu purchased some property in Rennes Le Chateau during 1946 in Langdoc, France which was once owned by a Catholic priest named Bérenger Saunière (1852-1917). His new enterprise was situated in a remote location and he needed to attract tourists to his eatery which he opened on Saunière's old estate. Over the next decade Corbu continually contacted newspapers and claimed that Saunière had discovered a huge treasure hidden in the 1200s by King Louis VIII's wife Blanche of Castille and the curate used the money to renovate his Church and other properties. In reality Saunière received the massive funding from a wealthy benefactor. The national news services picked up the story and none other than Pierre Plantard visited Corbu several years later and toured the area. Plantard decided to exploit the media hype surrounding Cordu's bistro to promote his own monarchist agenda.
Plantard further embellished Corbu's story by claiming that Saunière discovered some hidden secret documents during the renovations. In these manuscripts the Merovingian King Dagobert II was depicted as the last rightful monarch of France who was murdered by the Pope in 679 AD. Plantard started claiming that he was descended from this royal line and was the rightful King of France -- all of which turned out to be nonsense. As Robert Richardson pointed out Plantard wrote in the forged Priory documents that initiates must wear a cord at ceremonies which he directly took from Evola's Mystery of the Grail thus suggesting a direct link between the two men.
It should be noted that Plantard did not mention that Jesus and Mary Magdalen had children until after Evola's death. There may be a sound reason for this. Evola and Plantard may have been waiting for the European Union, which was formed in 1952, to solidify and for one of Mussolini's descendants to grow up and enter politics. These two conditions were essential for a Grail King political movement to emerge and promoting these ideas too early would destroy any chance of success. The conspirators did not want to jump the gun especially as the details of Mussolini's involvement in the Holocaust were being exposed. However, by the 1960s the Priory of Sion hoax took on a life of its own.
Saint Dagobert II's Skull
In 1961 French TV made a documentary on the hidden documents and cast Corbu as Saunière. The surrealist author Gérard de Sède was recruited by Plantard to write a series of books about the hoax and introduced the Knights Templars and the Cathars as driving forces behind the Priory. The conspirators also planted some false documents in the French National Library that listed the Grand Masters of the Priory which included every major figure in Western thought including Newton and Da Vinci. They seemed to have copied the AMORC Rosicrucians who had a similar list of alleged notable members in advertisements for their mail order mystical belief system.
In 1969 Henry Lincoln, an actor and screen writer for Doctor Who, read de Sède's work and visited Rennes Le Chateau. In the 1970s he produced a series of documentary films on Rennes Le Chateau for the BBC and this led to his collaboration with Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh on the non-fiction book Holy Blood, Holy Grail in 1982. The three authors investigated the mystery and were led to Plantard. It was in this book that Plantard promoted the idea that Christ had a wife and children that married into the Merovingian royal house and generated the Grail line and that a descendant of Jesus would rise as a world monarch although no esoteric scholar took him seriously. This huge hit spawned an industry of books and films on the subject which culminated with Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code in 2003 which spurred Ron Howard's block buster film starring Tom Hanks. The money generated from all of this must be in the billions.
That Plantard was promoting himself as the rightful King of France was helpful to the plot and was probably his reward if a Mussolini Euro-Emperor were to emerge. This would serve to warm-up the public for the coming of the Bloodline world monarch. However, after the Black Baron's passing Plantard most likely hijacked the scheme that Il Duce and Evola had originally concocted for his own gain. He egged on Lincoln, Baigent and Leigh when they falsely believed they had independently discovered that Jesus was married and that Plantard himself was the true descendant of Christ and rightful Grail King. Plantard's lies and further legal troubles ended his delusions of grandeur and he admitted to making the whole scheme up when he was hauled before a court in 1993. No one heard from him or about him after that until newspapers reported his death in 2000.
However, The entire Da Vinci Code industry planted the meme of the Grail King in the global imagination and consequently promoted Julius Evola's sinister plan of a global despot which emerges from a non existent Christ pedigree. Could Evola had an even more devious agenda for the emergence of a Bloodline monarch which would eventually dominate Europe and later the world? Could Plantard have been only one of many conspirators involved in this strange hoax? The answer may be yes.
Il Duce's Revenge: The Emergence of "a Prince of the Blood"
On the wall were Benito Mussolini and Clara Petacci were executed by partisans in 1945 hangs a Rosicrucian-like cross which has been associated with the Grail King legend by Evola and Guenon. Often roses are woven into the Cross by unknown parties. Could this suggest the existence of a secret society dedicated to restoring a Mussolini to political power? If this scenario is true than this leads to the question of which descendant of Il Duce will emerge as Grail King?
